Testosterone Replacement in high Risk Men

If you have been told you have prostate cancer, you have probably been denied access to male hormone supplementation for life. In view of the dramatic benefits of testosterone replacement in men who need it, this denial has been re-evaluated by science and you may be surprised at what we have learned.

Male hormone levels decline as men age. Many men experience this even in their thirties and forties. As levels drop, men start to notice symptoms like loss of strength, muscle mass, weight gain, fatigue, loss of sexual interest and erections, and men complain that they “just don’t feel the way they used to,”. Many men who have been treated for prostate cancer suffer from the effects of low Testosterone and yet have been told by their physicians that they are not candidates for replacement because of their medical history, depriving them of the many well known benefits of testosterone supplementation such as increased energy, lean muscle mass, bone density, endurance, libido, cardiac health, and mental acuity.

New research now reveals that Testosterone can in fact be used safely in many of these patients as long as there is caution and careful surveillance. SmarTest™ is new and innovative approach to male androgen replacement that employs this caution. The system was designed by Dr. Elliot Lander, a Board Certified Urologist with 22 years of experience in male hormone replacement. SmarTest™ High Risk is a patient selection and disease surveillance system that provides qualified men with low testosterone levels a safe and effective method of replacing their body’s androgen storehouses. SmarTest™ High Risk uniquely addresses the needs and concerns of men suffering from the effects of insufficient male hormone levels but who are worried about developing prostate problems. A consultation with Dr. Lander will determine if you are a candidate. This evaluation may include a thorough review of pathology, historic lab values and analysis of prostate cancer treatment. Patients deemed by Dr. Lander to be at significant risk for prostate cancer progression are not qualified to participate in the program. Selected patients will be asked to sign a special consent.

The SmarTest™ High Risk surveillance system allows many patients who have traditionally been afraid of using male hormone therapy to have an opportunity to enhance their quality of life. Dr. Lander strongly believes that Urologists who have special interest and training in Testosterone replacement should take a leadership role in management of high risk patients who require Testosterone supplementation.

Even select patients with a history of successfully treated prostate cancer may be eligible for the treatment! SmarTest™

The SmarTest™ method of Testosterone replacement is customized to the individual’s physiology and specific needs. Many patients are treated with topical bio-identical creams, and others may receive regularly scheduled injections. Select patients may qualify for convenient Testosterone pellet implants, in which testosterone is provided through an FDA approved slow-release system. In any delivery system, the efficacy and safety are monitored closely by Dr. Lander.

The system uses rigorous patient selection, prostate disease surveillance, and customized drug delivery methods to ensure that SmarTest™ offers significant safety advantages.
